Singapore Children's Season 2024: Buckle Up for a Season of Fun!

What is Children's Season in Singapore?

The Children's Season is a joint initiative by the National Museum of Singapore and the Museum Roundtable (MR). This collaboration brings together various museums and cultural institutions across Singapore to offer a diverse range of programs and activities specifically catered to young people.

For 2024, the theme of the Children's Season is "Innovation". This theme encourages children to think outside the box, explore new ideas, and celebrate the power of creativity. Participating museums will be offering programs and activities that reflect this theme, from workshops on coding and design to storytelling sessions with a focus on innovative ideas. Here's your ultimate guide to help you and your family make the most of this vibrant event happening from May 25 to June 23, 2024.

Activities and Programmes For Children's Season

The Children's Season in Singapore offers a variety of exciting activities and programs designed to spark children's curiosity, creativity, and love of learning. Here's a breakdown of some key highlights for 2024.

1. Launch of Children’s Panel for Children’s Season

This year's Children's Season in Singapore takes a revolutionary approach! Partnering with The Artground, a leading children's arts center, the Children's Museum Singapore (CMSG) has established the first-ever Children's Panel. This unique group of 15 creative minds, aged 8-12, plays a vital role in shaping the festival offerings.

CMSG prioritizes children's autonomy and fosters their creative spirit. The Children's Panel actively participated in curating the festival's "Signature Programmes," reviewing and selecting the final four from a pool of seven contenders. Their involvement goes beyond curation – they'll even experience the excitement of "taking over" program registration at select museums. This makes the Children's Season a truly child-centered experience, created for and by young minds.

2. Signature Programmes and Partnership Programmes

The Children's Season 2024 Signature Programmes offer a unique twist! Four interactive performances take center stage across participating museums: the Asian Civilisations Museum, CMSG, Former Ford Factory, and the Singapore Maritime Gallery. Each museum tailors its program to its own space and collection, creating a one-of-a-kind experience.

For example, CMSG's "Into the Hawkerverse" exhibition inspires their "Oodles of Noodles" program. Families join a roving performance along Armenian Street with Izzy, a character inventing new recipes. Through a food trail, participants gather ingredients and get creative, culminating in crafting their own fusion laksa at the end. Meanwhile, the Singapore Maritime Gallery, steeped in maritime history, lets young explorers set sail on an adventure with a pirate crew, learning about Singapore's rise as a maritime nation.

Beyond Signature Programmes, CMSG collaborates with MR members to bring "Partnership Programmes" to Children's Season 2024. These free activities hosted at CMSG allow MR members to connect with new audiences while offering families fun experiences. The programs either align with the "Innovation" theme or complement CMSG's "Into the Hawkerverse" exhibition.

One example is the Eurasian Heritage Gallery's cooking workshops. Participants get hands-on experience creating and tasting unfamiliar Eurasian dishes under the guidance of Chef Mary Gomes. They can learn to cook Curry Debal, Pang Susie, and Kueh Kochi, expanding their culinary horizons.

3. Into the Hawkerverse Exhibition

To celebrate Children's Season, CMSG is whipping up a brand new exhibition called "Into the Hawkerverse"! This immersive experience dives deep into Singapore's iconic hawker culture, educating children about its history, heroes, and delicious dishes in a fun and interactive way.

"Into the Hawkerverse" spans three galleries and even features a dedicated Play Pot for little ones under four. Here, they can explore everything from street vendors and hawker center design to iconic dishes through hands-on activities, multisensory experiences, and object-based learning. Imagine a "masak-masak" play space with a pool of pretend mee goreng – yum!

4. Children’s Season Stamp Booklet Activity

Get ready for some museum hopping fun with the return of the beloved Children's Season stamp booklet activity! Visit any of the 21 participating museums and grab your booklet. Complete a simple activity at each museum to earn a unique stamp imprint in your booklet.

Calling all stamp collectors! Fill your booklet and you'll be entered to win exciting Children's Season 2024 prizes. There are three tiers of collector milestones based on the number of stamps you collect, so the more museums you visit, the higher your chances of winning!
