At Ministry of Helpers, we are committed to fostering a fair and respectful environment for both employers and Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs). Our platform is built on the principles of transparency, dignity, and ethical employment practices. Unfortunately, we recently encountered a situation where an employer violated these principles, leading us to take the difficult but necessary step of blocking their access to our platform.
What happened?
One of our employers was found calling helpers “garbage” and making threats against an MDW simply because he did not like her response. Despite the helper doing nothing wrong, the employer threatened to report her to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). His behaviour demonstrated an unwillingness to engage in fair dialogue and an expectation that helpers should remain silent rather than ask questions.
Why we took action
We take incidents like this seriously because they go against the core values of mutual respect and fair treatment that we uphold. The Ministry of Helpers platform is designed to connect employers with helpers in a way that promotes trust and understanding. When an employer treats an MDW with such blatant disrespect, it not only affects that individual but also contributes to a culture of fear and inequality.
The importance of mutual respect
Respect is a two-way street. Employers and MDWs each play vital roles in a household, and a positive working relationship is built on communication, trust, and fairness. Here’s why mutual respect is crucial:
1. A healthy work environment – When both parties feel valued and heard, it leads to a more harmonious household and productive work environment.
2. Better job satisfaction – Helpers who are treated with dignity are more likely to be engaged, motivated, and committed to their roles.
3. Long-term employment success – Employers who foster respectful relationships with their helpers often experience better retention rates, reducing the stress of frequent rehiring.
Our commitment to ethical employment
The Ministry of Helpers is not just a recruitment platform; we are a community that promotes ethical hiring and fair working conditions. We believe that all workers deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. While we support employers in finding the right helper for their household, we will not tolerate behaviour that degrades or threatens MDWs.
By blocking this employer, we are sending a clear message: disrespectful and abusive behaviour has no place on our platform. We encourage all employers to approach the hiring process with empathy and fairness, fostering a positive environment where both parties can thrive.
If you share our belief in fair and ethical employment, join us in making the domestic work industry a place where mutual respect is the standard, not the exception.
Better connections make better homes.
